There are so many amazingly awesome and amazingly bad headshots out there – and sometimes they’re both bad and awesome at the same time. I mean – it’s a fine line really between a headshot that’s just so-so or boring – and one that’s all kinds of badass and cool and… what you want it to be.
Professional Atlanta Headshot Photographer
Of course. Different headshots for different people for different purposes. Right? Say headshot again. I dare you.
But really – you want your headshot to be a true representation of you and how you ‘look’ – but definitely close to the best presentation of you. No matter what side of you that you’re hoping to ‘present’. Alright I know – that was a lot of circular talk around headshots. I think what most of us can agree on these days is that we do not want anything resembling those old mall kiosks style glamour shots – and we don’t want anything resembling the old style portrait studio senior pictures either. (Unless you’re going for ironic – then of course you want those.)
Atlanta Corporate Headshot Photography
Still. Headshots for online profiles, for business profiles, for corporate press releases or speaking engagements – that’s why you want great headshots of yourself. Because these days – we all have to manage our own ‘brands’ and that means that we need to have at least one photo that wasn’t taken with a cell phone (although Apple will tell you otherwise.)
SO. What do you tell your photographer? Because they’ll definitely ask. What kind of backdrop do you want? Do you want plain white, something outdoorsy (parks), or industrial (old warehouse) or funky/hip/edgy (why do people always think that means you have to stand in front of graffiti?) – Those are all great options and your photographer will be more than happy to oblige you and your ideas. They’ll probably also make sure that you get ‘safe’ headshots during your session. By ‘safe’ I mean – a plain backdrop with good lighting that presents you… professionally. Just not too creepy, not too cool, not too… posed. That’s the idea anyway.
Studio or natural light? That’s also a choice – and one that will change how your headshot feels.
The Best Atlanta Headshot Photographer
Your best bet – really – is to get both ‘looks’. You can have an outfit change for variation, and also make sure you change up the backdrops. Mostly – you want to give your photographer enough to work with, so that they can make enough photos for you to choose from. Because it would be nice if for your 1-2 or 3 headshots we only had to take 3 photos – but that’s not how things work. We take A LOT of photos to make sure that we find your best looks, and then also the best lighting, and the best backdrops. Right – we want to find ALL OF THE BEST of everything. I mean – why not right? Now – how long that takes depends on your photographer – but also other factors usually outside of their control. A great photographer will know how to find your best looks relatively fast. They’ll know how to turn your chin up, down, this side, that side – they basically have a process they use in finding how to photograph YOU.
Because while no one is ‘not photogenic’ – everyone has a few different ways that they ‘photograph best’. This means – you should be photographed from these angles and not those angles. You know what I mean. Right? Right.
Because honestly – unless you’re a model – you probably don’t already know your best angles. Or how to get that captured in a photograph. So you need a great photographer that can take care of that for you… like me. (Hey I had to say it!)
