We had four weddings in October – and three of them were actually here in the state of Georgia (about 80% of our weddings take place out of state – like in Massachusetts, Indiana, and Tennessee.) In the next year we’re booked for weddings in Maine, Michigan, North Carolina, Alabama, and Florida. In case you haven’t noticed, we love traveling (both internationally and just hopping around the U.S.)

We have to admit though – it was kind of interesting to just wake up, have breakfast, go photograph a wedding, and then come back home to see our cats (OneTwo & ThreeFour.) No waking up in a hotel because we arrived the day before. No driving back to the hotel after the reception. No flying. Even a wedding in Savannah requires at least staying at a quaint bed & breakfast.

Along with traveling for weddings, we’ve been up to Nashville twice already just for engagement sessions – and we have a family portrait session in Philadelphia in two weeks; where we’re flying up in the morning and then back down to Atlanta that afternoon (which by the way should be really fun and awesome).

We’ve been so busy lately working with our Interns that we haven’t really had time to post anything about all of the ‘gigs’ that we’ve been shooting (oh – we’ve been working really hard – we have so much going on that I’ve been looking for a specific Marketing Intern to work with us for a three month term. Yes, a Marketing Intern separate from our Photography Interns.)

Many of our clients are lawyers. Contrary to any um, lawyer stereotypes – the ones that hire us are some of the absolute nicest people 🙂

Whether it’s a wedding in the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, a family portrait session, or headshots for their website – our clients are friends and we don’t take on any clients that aren’t good people to work with. We love photography so we don’t work with people who don’t get what we’re about. It just makes it easier for us to work as hard as we do for them.

BTW – Pamela & Steve? Absolutely Awesome.

We also spent a good bit of time with Pamela and Steve since we photographed their engagement session, their rehearsal dinner, and of course their wedding. If we could give any advice to anyone out there looking for a wedding photographer – aside from their photos, you need to find out what they’re like as people because you will probably spend more time with your photographer than anyone else on your wedding day.

Even the Interns we bring along with us must be very personable and/or invisible. Just because you’re our Intern doesn’t automatically mean we’ll put you around all of our clients. We love our clients as much as we love Chinese food – and that’s a ridiculous amount of love.

Every now and then we get asked why we photograph so many different events. Why don’t we ‘specialize’ and photograph only weddings. Aside from deciding to photograph anything and everything we want to photograph – we photograph a variety of events because it’s all practice, and our photography is influenced by more than just one specific style.

If we photographed only weddings then we’d honestly end up with the same wedding photos over and over again.

If you get to photograph cool break dancers, Bhutanese refugees, or celebrity chefs – your photos are bound to be influenced and possibly a little different than the photographer who only shoots weddings. We like challenges and sometimes the challenge is obvious – lighting complete darkness, or managing bright mid-day sun. Other times the challenge is making the best out of a space that isn’t at first ‘picturesque’.

But this is real life – and sometimes you get ready for your wedding in a classroom. That doesn’t mean your photos should be anything less than beautiful. Because they really shouldn’t be anything less than beautiful. No excuses. Ever.
