I’m sure you know by now that we have no problem with traveling out of state to photograph weddings. Apparently I don’t have a problem flying out for engagement sessions either. I flew out to Pomona, California for Emily & Ben, Newark, New Jersey for Denise & Thomas, and a few weeks ago I flew over to Charlottesville, Virginia to photograph Stephanie & Alastair. You know what’s awesome about all of that traveling? New Shots.
In fact – it’s really forcing me to look Atlanta a lot differently. I can’t settle for the normal/standard/common locations. No town squares, no Piedmont Park, no more any parks in town. At least not the commonly used ones anyway. Sure there’s the challenge of making the same location look different every time – but how about we just find a new location and give the couple something completely different. It’s easy to get lazy when you’re at home.
This session with Stephanie and Alastair? We stopped by an apple orchard, a vineyard, a random grassy hilltop, some Ye Olde Cabins, and then another vineyard where we had a 12 item wine tasting before continuing on to more open fields with horses. Um. Okay – so maybe not all engagement sessions will be like that day in Virginia. But we definitely shouldn’t rule them out.
