There are many reasons for having a first look (seeing each other before the ceremony).
From my point of view as your wedding photographer – the most important reason to have a first look is for the photographs. They’re different from photographs you get during your portrait session that takes place after your ceremony. You can’t have a first look after the ceremony. So you don’t get first look photos.
And I always downplay it during my conversations with clients that are dead set on not seeing each other until the ceremony – because who the f*ck am I to say, NO to that? I’m no one. Really – I’m not anyone.
… but really – also – come on…
This is Julie and Chris. Their wedding was… November 1st, 2014 at Sugarboo Farms in Blairsville, Ga. – and it SNOWED. Snow wasn’t really forecasts so we were all pleasantly surprised… but it had stopped that morning. And then we went out to do the first look and THIS HAPPENED.
This magic; this fantastical magical amazing-al thing happened during their first look.
And these photos would never have happened if there was no first look. Sure – different photos would’ve happened – and I would’ve done everything I could have to make them our usual level of awesome… but they wouldn’t be these photos.
In short. Have a first look. Increase your chances for magical fantastical amazing photos.
Thank you.
