As my only couple with any tattoos up until this point, Dana and David are the most badass couple I’ve ever shot.
This is also the first wedding where the bride was getting ready in a salon: the completely fantastic Salon 313 {for whom we will be covering an event in mid-July}. It’s one of those salons with Bettie Page lookalikes wandering around, churning out fabulous hair and make-up as easily as breathing.
Alumni Interns Brett and Jessica {known to me as JPS, or GPJess for her amazing talent at getting me around town, since I’m useless when it comes to directions and maps} and I worked on taking turns in the small spaces, utilizing whatever we had at hand to get the shot. Luckily, there were big windows, plenty of overhead and vanity lights in the salon, and the ceilings were fairly low, so our lighting was delicious. I love shooting people getting their make-up done, and one of the reasons is simply because we have one huge thing in common with make-up artists: we both need awesome lighting.
The wedding went without a hitch, and you know the deal: they’re beautiful, they were ridiculously fun to work with, and the whole family was AWESOME.
Also, there was Irish whiskey in a flask provided by the preacher. FOR THE WIN.
I’ll have to admit, I was a little nervous before going into this wedding. Because Dana & David booked me so long ago {when I had little to my name as a photographer, and even less to my portfolio}, I didn’t get the chance to know her as well as I would get to know a bride now. I also wanted to really impress them, since they took such a chance on booking me when I was still so dewy-eyed and fresh into the world of photography.
I, of course, worried for nothing. As usual.
We got along FAMOUSLY, the bridesmaids were SO much fun, and the couple were REALLY easy to shoot. I don’t think we stopped smiling the entire night.
{Spank you, Dana. Spank you, very much. :)}
