We offer both posed and candid or “journalistic” portraits of families and children. If you’re looking for photographs that capture the warmth and heart of your family, and are okay with leaving out cheesy poses, props, or backdrops found at commercial photo studios, we might be a good choice for your family photo.
The best time of day for outdoor portraits is either very early morning (depending on the time of year, no later than 9am) and then late afternoon or early evening. Essentially, you want to photograph an outdoor session as close to the ‘golden-hour’ as possible. The golden hour being the hour of sunrise or sunset. The mid-day sun produces hard light and harsh shadows. There are a few methods to overcome the mid-day sun but it does take some know-how and creative trickery. Of course weather does play its part and adjustments can always be made.

Family/Group Portrait Sessions:
$200 (2 hours) 1-2 people
$250 (2 hours) 3+ people
- You will receive a CD/DVD which contains all of the finalized/fully edited Hi-Res .jpg file copies from your portrait session.
- We will also setup an online gallery from which professional prints of all sizes can be ordered.
- We deliver fully finished photos – you will not receive any unedited files – you are paying for a completed service, not simply someone who ‘takes pictures’.
An important factor to keep in mind when scheduling a photo session for your family is having an idea of when everyone is at their best – when they are rested and in good spirits. Clearly we would rather photograph in less-than-ideal weather conditions than photograph children (and adults!) who are in awful moods. We’d rather wait until your family’s best/happiest/most well-rested time of day is available than force a session.
While many photographers schedule 1 hour long sessions – we prefer 2 hour sessions. Everyone needs time to warm up. Us, you, and your children. We also like to get a variety of looks – which can simply be a different nearby location, or even a change in outfits.
As far as locations - your session can take place anywhere you’d like. Inside your home, your backyard, a nearby park, an abandoned warehouse, steel mill, ancient ruins – anywhere you can think of, we’ll be there – and we’ll bring all of our gear and equipment.
Quality of ‘light’ is very important to us. Knowing how to control light and adjust for changes is something we pride ourselves on (the sun moving in and out of clouds, children running between rooms with different lights.) We shoot with both available light and off camera flashes. You’ll notice that in all of our photography, light plays a central role.
What should you and your children wear? Honestly? Whatever you want. We generally recommend staying away from busy patterns or very large logos – both of these distract from the subjects of the portraits – you and your family. Aside from that – express yourself. If you’re unsure, ask us – it’s okay, this is why you’re hiring professional photographers – because you want to wear clothes that ‘photograph’ well while also showing off your personality and style.
