“You have to believe in yourself.” Sun Tzu, The Art of War Saturday several friends of mine, myself and my wife, Starr, participated in what is called “The World’s Largest Running Series” also known as Warrior Dash. If you’ve never heard of Warrior Dash well I’m not sure what rock you’ve managed to be living under, but basically Warrior Dash is a obstacle course challenge. If you’re looking for a “rock-your-socks-take-you-back-to-your-childhood” kind of challenge these races are definitely for you. How did the event go …read more

A little boldness

I’m getting kind of overwhelmed, but in a good way. A really good way. This internship is becoming daily life. I’m feeling more comfortable with working with the pluses and I’m really looking forward to future shoots. However, I’ve been a little standoffish over the last few sessions. Being respectful to the main photographer is one of my top priorities. Unfortuntately, this fear of somehow coming off as pushy has prevented me from getting enough shots to where I can edit down to a good …read more

It was March 2009. Many newspapers and magazines shut their doors and pushed out their last months issue onto news stands. When I received my notice in the mail that Domino Magazine was being canceled and my subscription was to be replaced by… Glamour…I was really disappointed. As a design student, Domino had provided a niche of tangible inspiration unlike any other. It was not until I discovered Lonny Magazine that I felt that same sense of inspiration in design—that same yearning to keep reading—instead …read more
Someone lovely

A dynamic hotel lobby filled with satin, mesh, sparkle, lights! Step in for a picture please, your personalities are reflecting upon each other in the most spectacular of ways–and it’s all so lovely. Tonight is dedicated to the equalities of the human race, and to those who love themselves and each other. To be honest, when I was asked to help with an event shoot for the Human Rights Campaign, it was a cause I’d never heard of, but at least realized the people …read more
Dreaming of the 1920′s.
LeahAndMark.com | Atlanta Wedding Photographers
I’ve always been a huge fan of the 1920s. And for that I have Mr.Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” to blame. Flapper Dresses. Long Cigarette holders. Gloves. Red Lipstick. Prohibition. & Pin-up Girls. So when I got an email from Raven asking which female intern wanted to come along for a boudoir & pin-up shoot, I freaked out! It was my first official shoot of the internship and will probably be one of my favorites. When I arrived at the lady’s house she was getting her make-up and …read more

I honestly have to say this was one of THE COOLEST events I have ever attended. I didn’t really understand the performance that the GloAtl dancers put on at the Old Fourth Ward Skatepark. But then again I don’t think you were supposed to. What made the event so special and so amazing were the interactions and juxtaposition between the skaters and the performers. They were dancers…or performers. Not sure. The modern performance was a combination of poses, jerks, and synchronized moves which were played …read more

This intern is about so much, and as stated upon sign up “it’s what you put into it, that will determine what you will get out of it“. So while I thirst for the photographic lessons I hope to come away with, during this short precious 3 month internship. There are other lessons I’ll be embracing during the journey. Such as the lesson’s I was able to pick up during my latest shoot for LeahAndMark.com for the fashion show put on by the AMA (American …read more

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” –Wayne Gretzky It has been less than two weeks since the start of season eight, and I’ve done four different shoots. Each has been very different and yet I’ve learned from each. Show up! You’ve got to leave whatever bad day you’ve had behind when going to a shoot; else you won’t be focused on the task at hand and will miss out on the opportunities Event shooting is vastly different from model shooting MOST people …read more
Photographing and Shopping

So Intern Andrew totally caught me. “You’re not supposed to be taking photos of the clothes you want!” Ok so yes it was hard for me pay 100% attention to the AMA Atlanta event at the Lenox Bloomingdale’s when I was surrounded by clothes that couldn’t help but pop into my photos. (New items added to shopping list: lavender J. Brand denim shorts, Ted Baker…everything) Now unfortunately for the attendees and fortunately for us here at LeahAndMark, the YES Contemporary section is in a small …read more
Here comes the bride

So in this overwhelmingly exciting series of new events that have taken place in the past month, I also got the opportunity to photograph my very first wedding. I got to the house and proceeded to spill lens-cleaning liquid all over my pants. If ever there would be a bad sign, that was it. It dried quickly and I was able to carry on, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. I spent the car ride to the bride’s home fiddling with my …read more

Since last August, I’m been working hard to put together a portfolio for my AP 2D class, and I’m happy to say I completed that task today. For those unfamiliar with an AP Portfolio, it consists of two parts: a breadth and a concentration. The breadth is supposed to show technical skill, versatility, and mastery of the elements and principles of art and design. I really enjoyed working on the breadth because it allowed me to experiment with no restrictions and I was able to …read more

This was my best model this week. The cicada was hanging on my dryer vent this last Saturday. I will admit I am most comfortable when shooting animals, wildlife and nature. My dog, Joey is most definitely my muse. I could easily write every blog post about him. But animals have been on my mind all week. A stray/lost/abandoned puppy wandered into our yard this past week and so I have been caught up in trying to find out where his owner is, if they …read more
