The “Hot Toddies” are a fire dancing burlesque troop. I’ve seen them perform a couple of times, each time impressive and a delight to the senses. I was thrilled when the opportunity arose for me to shoot them. They were scheduled to be a part of the evening festivities of Art B Que. Along with the Toddies was the art of metal sculpture, Charlie Smith. It was a night of flaming fun.
This was the giant flaming skull sculpture crreated by Charlie.
Jaimie and Stephanie right before their “Fire On the Midway” show.
Jaimie and some red lipstick.
I like the composition in this shot.
The show was about to begin.
Shooting fire can be a challenge. I tried several settings on the camera. I did some light painting using a slow shutter speed but those were not my favorite pictures. I preferred the “stopped” flame. I used my fixed 50 lens and chose 1.4 for my f stop and 1/60 for my shutter.
This is Stephanie playing with fire.
I love what the fixed 50 does to backgrounds. The pink lights in the back were from a car covered in pink lights.
I chose this photo because I like the body position of Jaime. I think it is so important to show flattering pictures of your subject.i try to think of myself as the subject,” if it was a picture of me, would I want other people to see it?”Her legs look amazing here.
I like the soft light on their thighs and their body position.
Jaimie’s blue eyes with the red details worked beautifully.
If you have the chance to see the art of Charlie Smith and /or Hot Toddies, do it! Amazing at what they do and wonderful to shoot.
