The season has come upon us where everything breaths a sigh of relief. Everyone survived winter and new life blooms. Well, this winter wasn’t harsh but it’s stil a time to celebrate.

And celebrate people did at Kai-Lin Art’s gallery opening for the latest show Bloom.

Beverages poured from both Svdeka Vodka and Duvel. I must say Duvel was a big hit with everyone at the gallery because they could take home the beautiful glasses they drank from. Duvel’s owner is a huge art collector and has an annual art competition for designs to go on their promotional glasses.

What’s this? Intern Erik and his lovely lady were the bartenders for the evening mixing up wonderful concoctions with Svdeka’s original and raspberry flavors. {I gotta say the raspberry is pretty darn good.}

There were many little ones running around durning this show and they really helped keep the atmosphere in the spring spirt. There was a constant flow of people in and out… but never too many at one time. Just enough to make the gallery inviting and not overcrowded to where you could no longer see the art.

The artists featured in this show are old and new. The imagery ranged from complete abstraction, photographic, mix-media and fashion. The artists, as always, intermingled with the crowed and won the hearts of all.

If you have the chance, stop by the lovely gallery in Buckhead and take a stroll amongst the artwork of Bloom. It will be well worth it and less sneezing than the botanical gardens. But hurry, just like spring, Bloom will be gone before you know it. The show lasts from March 30th – May 18th.

On Friday night I had the pleasure to head over to Kai-Lin Art to photograph the opening of the latest gallery show: Terra.

The owner, Yu-Kai, is a kind fellow who always has a smile on his face. He knows what it takes to put on a great opening and how to please the hundreds of people who flow in and out of the gallery space.  I met him while I was an intern. Alumni intern Brittany Wages contacted me and asked if I would help her shoot the opening of Monsters. It was the first show in the new gallery space and there was a huge turn out. You can see it here.

When Yu-Kai asked me to come out to Terra, I was more than willing. It really satisfies the traditional artist in me. I brought along Intern Krista to help me capture everything. We also met a very nice videographer who was doing his part to captures the events of the night. I’m sure there is plenty of footage of Krista and I running around so I had to grab a couple images of him working as well. The night seemed to be a huge success with pieces being sold right on the floor. The artist were all amazing, kind, and friendly people. They all deserve to have every piece sold before the show closes. Just my opinion. 🙂

Proceeds will benefit Hats for Hearts, a local cause for baby Eliavah born with a heart defect known as Tetralogy of Fallot.”

(from the Hats for Hearts website, by Annie Sun)

Eliavah Maribel Ogir, born to Aree and Karma Ogir is now 2 months old and has Tetralogy of Fallot, a combination of abnormalities of the heart that requires constant attention and open heart surgery.  As I was talking to Aree and listening to his stories of financial and emotional struggles, I knew I had to do something to help my fellow teacher. So after brainstorming ideas with other teachers, Hats for Hearts was started to raise awareness and funds for Eliavah’s surgery and medical bills. Our future goal is for families with the same heart disease to find comfort and support through our organization.

Me + Interns Claire, Mary & Vania photographed this event and you can see my shots from the portrait booth Here – and then you can check out Claire’s photos Here. Mary & Vania’s shots are coming soon on their own Intern Blogs.
