Bridesmaids dresses. I could literally go on forever about the subject. They’re obviously number 7 on my list of top 10 things to talk about EVER. Sadly – it’s Friday so I have to keep this post short. Sadly I won’t be able to tell you how much I think that bridesmaids dresses have come a long way in the last decade. As an expert in bridesmaid-dress-historology I can knowledgeably say that we’re at the point where you can basically say ‘F*ck that’ to many things about your wedding – especially the bridesmaid dress-as-matching-uniform for your ladies. Heck. Your ‘bridesmaids’ don’t even have to all be ladies. Right? RIGHT.

It can even be as simple as saying to your bridesmaids ‘Here’s a color. Get a nice dress. I’ll see you there.’

So here’s a gallery of bridesmaids and their brides (and even a groom) so you can see what they look like – all together and not just on an invisible model. Because sure the bride is supposed to look brilliantly amazing on her wedding day – but that doesn’t mean the bridesmaids have to wear burlap sacks. Besides. Groomsmen are often too coolto really let loose so we all know bridesmaids are the ones you count on to MAKE THE PARTY HAPPEN later at the reception. So at least let them look good.

The other day I was getting into a pretty heated discussion with a bride over whether or not I was seeing more mermaid style dresses (she preferred to call them trumpet style) this year or if I was seeing more A-line dresses. I got distracted though and started going on and on about how I wish more of my brides would pick empire waist cuts because those are kind of my all time favorite.

Yeah – hellooooooo that conversation would never happen. Ever. With me. Never. Come on! Wedding dresses?! You think I can tell the difference between them? They’re all… wedding-y. They’re big or small or short or long or big… or… different shades of white… or not white… but most importantly – are they heavy and can I duct tape them to the wall somewhere? Alright – it’s not as if I won’t ask questions about your wedding dress during our initial consult/meeting. I’ll totally be all like, “Do you already have your dress? Oh, what cut is it? Did you get it with the peplum skirt? I think that’ll look amazing!” Well… I might not say those exact words… or any of them… but still… IDK. Yeah. Wedding dresses. They’re great for photographs.

And I like making photographs. THAT’S ALL I WANT TO DO! I wanna make amazing photos of everything on your wedding day. YES you’re beautiful and LOVE LOVE LOVE and all that – and I’ll even get caught up in all of the love flying around on your wedding day like cocaine and strippers at a 10 year old’s birthday party back in the 80’s! (maybe that was just my birthday party?) – and no matter what type of dress you have – you’ll look amazing because you probably have people around you that wouldn’t let you look anything other than drop dead beautiful and blah blah blah.

Oh hey. Here are a few of the wedding dresses that our brides have worn this year so far.

Jennifer & Russell’s Wedding by +Raven

When I first got in contact with Jen & Russ, and she told me about their upcoming Ocala, Florida backyard-farm-DIY-tea-length-zoot-suit wedding with a bourbon bar, alcoholic cupcakes, and s’mores pit, I was beyond psyched.

And I wasn’t disappointed.

You may remember Jennifer & Russell from their engagement session we did in Little Five recently. They were just as awesome at their wedding. 🙂

Jennifer had been collecting glass from absolutely everywhere, building up what would become the table centerpieces and a large part of the decor for the wedding.

She painted the invitations. Each set of parents walked one of the couple’s dogs down the aisle.

Her dress was an ombre tea-length custom-designed number, and his suit was a custom made authentic 40’s zoot suit. Dad even wore a 40’s political pin.

We played with her childhood horse, she wore a necklace her mother made her, SHE MADE THE BOUQUETS AND BOUTONNIERE from felt.

Guys, it was awesome.

Jennifer and Russell, you’re awesome.

Thank you so much for having us. 🙂
