1920’s Themed Wedding (NOT Gatsby) | North Carolina Wedding Photographer

1920’s Themed Wedding

When I spoke with Tracy on the phone about her wedding – she made it clear that it was 1920’s themed wedding – and NOT Gatsby. Because you know – The Great Gatsby is our default reference for any 1920’s party right? LOL. Except the book isn’t exactly the happiest cheeriest story out there. SO.

1920’s – not Gatsby.

And you know what – It. Was. Awesome.

Like all kinds of Awesome.

I actually brought along my crew and we all hopped in the car to get up to High Point, NC. where the wedding took place. Nearly everyone had to travel (including Tracy and Patrick) to be there – so it was a destination wedding for most of the people involved. The Centennial Arts Center is an old train depot and of course it still has a few train cars outside (which we made use of during their portrait session as you saw above!)

But really – what was great about this wedding – and many weddings – is that you could tell that all of these people – this collection of friends and family really did care about and love both Tracy and Patrick. (I know – that was totally a super long run on sentence strung together but the illegal use of – – – – )

Of course the stage was dramatically lit – and of course Tracy and Patrick had prepared and rehearsed their first dance! And it was so awesome! Her dress! Those moves! Exclamation point!

1920’s Themed Wedding. (don’t mind that – it’s just for SEO reasons you know.)

There was also a definite library theme alongside the 1920’s part and you can see that in their center pieces being stacked of old books and other bits of the decor as well. Yes. The Centennial Arts Center in High Point, North Carolina is a great wedding venue. And I’m not struggling to hit my 500 word count for the darn SEO points!… not at all.

Oh yeah – the food was amazing, and the music was great and they also had a selection of craft beers for their guests. And and and… why did it take me so long to blog this wedding? AHHHH! It took place back in April and I’m only blogging it now? What is wrong with me? Nothing. Nothing is wrong with you Mark. You just happen to think that a 1920’s themed wedding (not Gatsby) is really great and you wanted to try to do the blog post justice so you wanted to take your time. I wanted to take my time… even though now that’s not really reflected in this blog post. 500 words is SO MANY WORDS. Alright. 460. Almost there.

Oh yeah – I also got to finally meet a few people in real life that at this wedding that I had only known from the Facebook. So that was cool. And Juliana up there playing the guitar – always good to see her… and… that’s 510! Boom SEO Suckas! I’m OUT.

Oh yeah – Tracy and Patrick. Thank you so much.

I’ve literally known Kristen for something like 47 years – so it was a real honor to be there to photograph her destination wedding with Martin – IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA! We (me and Kristen) grew up in Phoenix – so Las Vegas was never very far – but I actually haven’t ever photographed a wedding there – until now!

Kristen is actually one of my oldest friends (because you know – I don’t have many friends and that’s a whole other story) so… I honestly would’ve attended the wedding anyway – even if she hadn’t hired me to be her photographer 😉

BUT – if you’ve ever heard me talk about it – I would always rather be photographing a friend’s wedding than simply attend it. Because come on! If I’m photographing the wedding then I get to hangout with the couple ALL DAY LONG. Not only that – but I get to pull them away from people, I get their attention, ME ME ME ME. Right? ha.

Compared to if I just attend the wedding – sure I get to eat the food and party and stuff – but I maybe get 3-8 minutes talking to the couple. And that’s cool…. BUT NOT AS COOL AS BEING THEIR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER!

It was only a few months earlier that I photographed Kristen’s sister’s wedding (Melissa + Dan) down in Phoenix, Az. – so it was also an added bonus of getting to hangout with her family twice in a short span of a few months. And any wedding photographer will tell you that it’s always great to hangout with clients that you already know. Because… you really do end up feeling like a part of the family. We stayed at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino – and their wedding took place at The Hartland Mansion and Wedding Chapel. Now that venue – it’s… all kinds of amazing. A total ‘Classic Vegas’ vibe circa Elvis circa Liberace feel – complete with lots and lots of candelabras…

Of course – being an Atlanta Wedding Photographer – it was a real treat to be able to fly out and photograph something a little different than what I’m used to – specifically photos on Las Vegas at night time! After their wedding we headed over a few blocks to Fremont street for the Fremont Street Experience (which is like… day time at night) – so lots of lights, lots of loud music, lots of drunk and not drunk people – you know – downtown Las Vegas. And that’s where we did another portrait session with the two of them because come on – when you have a destination wedding in Las Vegas – you NEED those night time portrait session photos right? Or else it’s just… desert photos, or casino photos or… IDK – but it seems like any wedding set wouldn’t be complete without some night time photos with all the lights and the lights and the lights. Did I mention the lights?

Kristen and Martin – You. Are. Awesome.

How to Hire Live Musicians for Your Wedding Ceremony | VLOG

When you’ve decided to hire ceremony musicians – you want to find someone who is very experienced playing weddings – not just in playing – but playing weddings specifically.

Do they have a list of music/songs that work really well for wedding ceremonies – that list will give you an idea of their experience – their knowledge – and the general, can they do what you want? Can they play what you want? Do they already have the sheet music for it? For example – a string quartet needs sheet music in order to play – and often times the sheet music isn’t available for popular songs you’ve heard on the radio.

So – someone – probably your musicians – are going to have to actually write that sheet music. I KNOW RIGHT? THAT’S SO PROFESSIONAL!

And if they can write the music – you know you’re working with badass musicians. Because not all musicians can actually WRITE music.

Alright – if we don’t see you on your day – have a great wedding and we’ll talk to you later.

(also – that’s Kat up there in the video with me – you can hire her and her team for your wedding! Over at Luna Strings!)
