Paralee + Aaron | Colorado Wedding by LeahAndMark

This August will be the three year anniversary of our photography business. That almost literally means that I picked up my first dslr camera three years ago and started taking photographs. Over the past few months I’ve been on a furious pace of shooting and editing and lining up shoots and booking gigs and traveling – and it’s about to get busier as we hit the fall season.

We pay our bills, we provide quite well for the BabyRoX and by most measuring sticks we’ve built a pretty successful photography business in the span of under 3 years. We operate at a ridiculous pace of hard work and no sleep + coffee + Chinese food. The pace is so hard that we’ve actually taken on a studio manager to start handling more of the business coordinating and we’re finally focusing our photography into a few select areas. Yeah – us – the people who obnoxiously said that they don’t specialize or have a niche. Ha.

Eventually I’ll get to the point – and that’s the fact that I can’t get over how honored we are to be invited to people’s weddings. It really is a f*cken honor to be a wedding photographer and to be there spending the day with two people in love on such a meaningful day – surrounded by everyone in their lives that love them.

We have a ridiculous amount of fun doing our jobs – but we’ve always taken it very seriously because it’s hard not to want to work as hard as possible for our clients. And this isn’t just an excuse to throw in another ‘our clients are the best ever!’ statement – it’s that our clients are the best clients for us – and we’re the best photographersfor them. Maybe not everyday – but definitely on their wedding day.

Paralee and Aaron are very dear to us. More than just clients – they’re both old friends and Paralee was actually Intern 00 – back before we even had an internship. So when she and Aaron asked us to be their wedding photographers – it was one of the biggest compliments we could have ever received.

This is really scary for me. Having shot only a couple weddings, I know there are so many things that can go wrong on the photography side and I just don’t want to spend my wedding day worrying about the photography. Which I would if it were someone from around here.

Take your time and think about it. But honestly, I’ve never thought about having anyone but you photograph our wedding.

I honestly haven’t photographed too many of my friends on their wedding day. Most of the time I’m flying across the country to meet our clients the day before their wedding – and then the next day I do my job and make a full bag of Awesome.

Of course one of the reasons we’ve been so successful in booking business completely through email is because we write like we talk, and we’re just good at connecting with people. (Of course Leah is much better at it – although I do think I’m way funnier.) So while the pressure to connect with literal strangers on their wedding day wasn’t there – it was definitely replaced by the pressure to bring the FULL AWESOME (direct quote from Paralee) for not only Paralee and Aaron – but also in front of all of our friends from Atlanta that flew up to Colorado for the wedding (including Alumni Interns Robby & Christy!)

Oh yeah – the wedding took place at about 12,000 feet. So the air was pretty thin – especially for us Atlantans that weren’t used to being up that high. Not only that – but I run around alot during weddings. This one was challenging because I didn’t reduce the amount of running around I did – I just accepted the fact that for a few hours, my chest would feel like it was going to explode/I was going to just fall over. But hey! I was on a mountain in Colorado! You think I could let something like being able to breathe stop me from getting all of my shots?

But mostly – you just always want to hit one out of the ballpark for the two people getting married – no matter if they’re close friends or if you only met them the day before their wedding (amazingly common for us.)

Of course – Paralee & Aaron made things pretty easy for us – and it’s always easy when two people are in love with each other like they are.

Paralee & Aaron. You. Are. Awesome.
