If you followed my Intern experience, you may have got a taste of the craziness that is my life right now. 5 years ago, I was a police officer living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Me and my wife found out we were pregnant and that it was time for a change for us – we moved to Colorado, I left the police department and become a software developer/network engineer. Over the next few years we had our Son – Kallin – and our Daughter – Aurora. In November of 2009, my wife decided she wanted to go back to school – 3 months later our house was sold, and we were heading cross country in a moving truck.
It should go without saying that I am a spontaneous person. I love the adventures and thrills of life, and just the experience of living. It is an amazing thing that you and I experience everyday, and I don’t want to miss a minute of it.
What I didn’t know when we moved to Atlanta, was that it wasn’t just my wife who was making some major career-altering changes. I had been pursuing photography as a hobby for the year prior, and wanted to go full time with it, but it just didn’t seem like things were breaking my way. Business was hard to find, I didn’t feel like I was progressing like I wanted. Despite that, I decided that regardless of what I did – I needed to do something different and gave notice to my job that I was leaving.
January 1st, I was unemployed and looking for a new line of work, I had little realistic aspirations that it would be photography, but one day I saw an ad for an internship with this company in town. LeahAndMark.com – I read their blogs, saw their work, and was hooked. I applied, and as they say, the rest is history.
Over the past 3 months, I have grown exponentially, not only in my work, but also my vision, drive and purpose. I love people, and I love capturing their experiences and stories with my lens, and I want to make it my life to share those things in every way that I can. I would like to think that I will make my living in photography, but, thats not the point. The point is that I understand now, that regardless of where I make my income from here on out – what I AM is a PHOTOGRAPHER, and I can’t wait to continue writing that story in word and picture, and I am incredibly priveledged to continue that story here with LeahAndMark.
A few weeks ago I shot Robert and Jessica’s wedding. I had done their engagement shoot back in March, and I was itching to shoot my first post internship wedding. I can honestly say I have never worked so hard at a wedding, and thats saying a lot.
Thank you Robert and Jessica for letting me capture the moments of your wedding. May you have many blessed years together.
