Introducing +Laura

Hello. I’m +Laura.

Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind – Dr. Seuss

This sentiment holds so much value for myself and hopefully for those I have shared it with recently.  In writing this first blog post, Mark wanted me to write whatever came to mind…no matter what.  My immediate reaction was “Really?  oh gosh..there’s a lot up in that crazy brain of mine to pick and choose from…especially depending on my mood, time of day, where I’m writing…what if it’s not good, interesting, enlightening, too forward, or worse…”

But then I think back to the above statement and my brain changes its dialogue to “Laura, it’s okay.  Just say what you want, because those who don’t mind (or find it funny, entertaining, enlightening…) will stick around to read/see more… and those who don’t get it, well… maybe it just wasn’t meant to be.”

In that same light, I recommend you follow Dr. Seuss’ advice if you find yourself experiencing any type of relationship dilemma (friendship, family, significant other…hey, I do have a psych degree…I’ve got to put it to use when I can) 🙂

So what I am feeling and have been thinking lately is this:

Some of us are notorious for not communicating when we need to, or have a hard time translating thoughts into words and images – but I find it always works out better when you at least try to put what you can out there and the rest has a way of working itself out.  (I need to ingrain this into Mark as well…the complete sentence thing is hard for him.)

I know it’s been said countless times before, but truly – communication is key, and don’t be afraid to be yourself.

I promise to be honest with my work and the words that go with it.  As an artist you run the risk of both criticism and praise whenever you put yourself in front of the public eye.  I can handle any reaction from either side…heck, I encourage it… but what I couldn’t live with is not trying to create anything at all. That’s simply not an option.  Along these same lines, I encourage all the people I know, will meet, and will work with – to be open and be themselves without apology – and I will always provide the same in return. Thank you.
