Intern Jennifer asked me to go with her to 2nd shoot a wedding in Hendersonville, North Carolina. I DEFINITELY wanted to join, I LOVE adventures! As I’m writing this post thinking about the trip and the wedding, I’m realizing that I learned a lot more than I originally thought I did. All 2nd shooting I have done prior to this has been pretty high-strung and I definitely felt like a 2nd shooter. Jennifer was AWESOME to work with because we pretty much did our own …read more

This might get a little personal. -Sometimes people come into your life and you think “this person will always be here for me” or “I can’t imagine my life without them”. Sometimes those people really do stick around, and sometimes they don’t. -Sometimes someone comes into your life and gives you a gift. They ignite a flame that WILL stick around forever, even if they decide not to. Taking that flame and running with it is what is important. Relying on someone to be there …read more

Sometimes things go “wrong” Really, really wrong. I like plans. I like to have things laid out and set up so I am not scrambling to make arrangements. Just because I like that, doesn’t mean I am ANY good at it whatsoever. Sometimes major network cell phone companies randomly cut off service to thousands of people. Said cell phone company has never done this to me, and honestly I probably wouldn’t notice if they did because I rarely talk on the phone. Well, surprise. Aly …read more

My first baby/child shoot! (Is a 1 year old still a baby? I think so.) Also, my first time working with +Raven. As soon as I saw little Max I knew I was in trouble. He was SO stinking cute. I know, I know… everyone says babies are cute, weddings are awesome, couples are so in love, blah blah blah. But honestly, this kid is adorable. I am a sucker for this age group especially when they have the personality Max does! Raven was busy …read more

A good photograph is the product of the photographer posing their models and clients to perfection. True or False? Photographers tend to get in the mindset that their clients should be posed and then a photograph snapped. I want to PULL MY HAIR OUT looking at all the photographers who do so much generic posing and then take a boring, boring, boring picture with no artistic detail to it at all. I still will never understand why people think those kinds of picture are so great. …read more

First of all, I want to say THANK YOU to Jo for setting up this shoot. It was awesome and a great concept. It was a concept that I, personally, was not crazy about from the get go, but is one that I had to think and get creative to build the shots that I wanted. A good photographer has an “eye” as people say. A way of framing, editing, and composing a photo that in turn is pleasing for others to look at. The …read more

First of all, Mark is Smart He wanted me to say that, but after tonight I’m pretty sure that’s true. The interns went to a Lighting 101 class with Leah and Mark. I was excited because the opportunity to learn is always a good! Lighting is my weakest “knowledge area” about photography. It’s incredibly foreign to me. Mark got us started explaining the gear and showing us how ambient light and strobe light is controlled with camera settings. It seemed SO EASY after he explained …read more

If you knew me when I was a child, being a photographer is probably one of the last careers you would have imagined for my future. There is no way the girl hiding behind her Mom’s leg would ever be outgoing enough to photograph people, much less TALK to them. Even when I was older, I would make other people order my food for me at a restaurant (hahaha) and I hated to talk on the phone. If it weren’t for the unusual situations I …read more

So by the title I’m sure you think I am a complete dork, and YES I am. But anyways, interns Kelly (carpooling for the win!), Jen, Brittney, Sam and +Debra (and +baby) all headed out to Norcross bright and early for a photo shoot with models! We split off and rotated every once in a while to try to work with the most models possible. We got AMAZINGLY lucky and happened to come across a woman standing outside an older house. Apparently it’s being renovated …read more

I am constantly thinking about how I want to develop my “style” of photography. I love every chance I get to shoot someone (ahhhhhh I’m really not violent..). Sometimes my ideas for the day work out well, and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes a pose or angle I LOVED during the shoot, absolutely doesn’t work when I look at it on my computer, but it also works the other way around. I’m learning that when you think you have “your shot” to shoot just a bit …read more

Social Media- You know, Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Yelp, etc. Or simply, the places where you entertain people with your life. In our case, it is to grow a business, be personable, and fun! (we WANT you to creep on us! Do it!) I’ve always been told that I tend to give people too much information about my daily life, but that is why this social media thing works to my advantage. People really don’t care what I had for breakfast, but if it is entertaining …read more

Well, I am no longer ‘officially” a LeahAndMark.com intern. But that doesn’t mean I still can’t make awesomeness with them. (and this will be a pretty lengthy post of awesome photos) Mark asked me to second shoot a wedding with him, and thankfully I was able to adjust my schedule to attend. As an intern, I never had an opportunity to shoot an event with Mark. I was pleasantly surprised with how he works at a wedding. It’s very similar to how I see myself …read more
