Home Sweet Home

Before our move, I wasn’t totally convinced I would like living in Sandy Springs again.  But you know what?  I love it.  I love our apartment – from the spacious bathroom, to the hammock on the balcony, to the big windows all around.  And I love our location – it’s great getting to hang out with my brother more, exploring the new restaurants that have popped up around here, dropping by my parents’ house to borrow cooking utensils or play with their crazy dog.  We’re super close to some our of best friends, and even though our commutes to school and work are longer, it’s really not as bad as we anticipated, especially with all the backroad options available.

And there are awesome farmers’ markets up here!  Yes!  So far we’ve been to the Dunwoody one on Wednesday morning and the Roswell one on Riverside on Saturday.  And we love them both.  So many yummy, fresh, organic things to eat.  I got a cute lil basil plant last weekend and I named him Albert.  He tastes delicious and has pretty pink flowers all over him, but he is quite secure in his masculinity, folks.  I might have to get some scented geraniums this weekend.  Rose or lemon flavored cakes, anyone?

We’re also closer to Buford Hwy now.  If you’re not from Atlanta, picture your town’s Chinatown, Little Italy, Koreatown, and…uhhh… Little Mexico?  Mexico City?  Well whatever.  Anyways, take all those and throw in a handful of other places/cuisines/etc. from Asia, Latin America, and the like, and put them all along a long stretch of road filled with restaurants, markets, salons, etc. and you’ve got Buford Hwy.  You want Pho? Pork belly? Fried intestines? Mochi? Foot massage? Bubble tea? Bi bim bap? Menudo?  Karaoke? All at super affordable prices? Go to Buford Hwy.

Crepe Master!

So yes.  LeahandMark actually like living in Sandy Springs.  In fact, so far, I don’t even miss our old ‘hood.  Not that we can’t always visit.  And we’re still in the city most days anyway.  I’m just really happily surprised that we’re as happy as we are up here in the ‘burbs.

And I am also super excited for our camping trip Labor Day Weekend.  Ohhhh yes, LeahandMark.com get up close and personal with the Chattahoochee National Forest in 10 days’ time.  There will be s’mores and photography and hiking and tent-pitching.  And apparently some new age conference on something called ORMUS going on at the campsite we chose.  Things should be interesting.  Stay tuned.

Being a transplant to the area, it amuses me to no end how ITP folks talk about areas like Sandy Springs like it's some no man's land in Outer Mongolia or something. We're talking about someplace ADJACENT to Buckhead fer cryin' out loud–you see the 'welcome to SS' sign right about where the businesses w/ Buckhead in their names end on Roswell Rd.

    You crazy Atlantans! :)
