Workout Mix!

While driving to the grocery store for a second, I stopped at a MARTA station to take this picture of the Decatur water tower down the street from us - I think we both have always liked how the city of Decatur is depicted as cartoony in all of their official propaganda! It’s a difference from everything else government official.

Oh. I also forgot to post about the little cat tent that we bought at IKEA for One-Two and Three-Four!

The seem to like it well enough - and it’s always turned over and twisted when we get home - I’m sure from the fighting that occurs when one of them is in it and they start battling through the walls and it all goes haywire.

It’s time for some food! - this was our dessert last weekend @ Watershed - Angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream. Leah really likes this dish since her mom used to make it for her when she was younger. I think it was her mom.

Okay so the week hasn’t gone by as fast as I may have said it might at the beginning of the week - but it’s moving along steadily, I mean, we’re almost at Thursday and then Friday will be a quick snap and all of a sudden we’re back at the weekend - which will be a challenge since we’re both over budget so I doubt there will be any exciting restaurant food pictures… it’ll all be home cooked junk with the exception of anything we eat from a booth at the Summerfest on Saturday. Oh that reminds me - I’ve been cooking lots of food in our wok since we moved here to Atlanta.

Mostly because now we have a gas burner and it’s just way cooler when you’re cooking in a wok and using fire - as opposed to an electric top - plus it feels like you can get the wok hotter with the actual flames! This is our wok:

We bought it at Crate & Barrell with a gift card and we’ve made really good use of it. I can basically cook ANYTHING in this thing. Eggs, stir fry, any meat, any vegetable - anything. However, it IS really heavy - relatively speaking. So lifting it up to dish stuff out takes some arm muscle, but usually we can just spoon the food out and not have to deal with the weight of the thick metal. I do think that the seasoning/darkening of the wok is coming along nicely - you don’t want to scrub all of that stuff off with a hard metal brush or anything - it makes it look cool and it also makes everything taste so much better. Here’s an upclose shot - the whole thing is really smooth and after washing it I’ll spray it with oil and wipe it down with a paper towel - it gets all smooth and shiny and not dried out.

Oh yeah, I wanted to post this picture of Leah walking to her brother’s graduation because her dress is cool.

Anyways. This began as a workout post where I talk about ummm… working out, but that idea’s long over - however, I’ll still post some of the songs currently on my playlist while I’m at the gym these days. Click on each to download until I’m made to stop. I’m hungry again.

Fatboy Slim - Michael Jackson

CrazyTown - Butterfly - Techno Remix

NIN - Perfect Drug - Remix

Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out

Middle of the Week!

Well it’s Wednesday and we’re almost at the weekend. We have the Virginia Highlands Summerfest to go to this weekend and there’s probably a few other things that we need to get done (clean/begin packing/clean/laundry) but we’ll see how that goes.

Like anyone who has a website or blog will tell you - people sometimes get to their blog by way of an odd search term - they’ll mention an odd subject or question and all of a sudden, for a few weeks they show up on the 1st search page for ‘eating your baby’s afterbirth’ or some weird stuff like that (I’ll let you know if that happens here.) SO while it’s not as weird and makes perfect sense, almost daily we’ve been getting visitors who are trying to find information on the location of Mama’s Naxi Guesthouse in Old Town Lijiang, China -

And we still come up on searches for that because well… there aren’t too many write ups on the topic - however, we did always mean to do a full resource write up on all of the hostels, and other traveling tips that would be useful to anyone going to any of the places that we visited - as many travelers do and post to the Lonely Planet forums.

So. I think tonight I’ll dig up the map of Old Town Lijiang, scan parts of it (not sure if I can find it online - I only tried for a few minutes earlier) and then draw the location of the hostel - because it’s basically hidden since there are no real address markers - most people don’t know where it is in Old Town and taxi drivers can’t find it. SO. That’s on the list for tonight.

Not too sure what else is new ’round these parts… work is work - busy and not busy but still semi-interesting, school is school - which is sort of in the background but every weekend when the papers are due I get back to focusing on the stuff - at around 9pm on Sunday evening… Leah’s taking care of her mother… Oh. And it’s really, really humid + hot here in Atlanta. It’s SO hot and humid right now - and it’s going to be worse over the next few days. Which reminds me that I need some new um, shorts to go walking out in since all I have are jeans.

Oh that reminds me… I need to look at the budget again and see if we can still make our next Micro-Loan on Kiva.org - that’ll make it $200 in total loaned out for the win.

And as if I was plugging a save the children campaign - you can loan out as little as $25 and it goes a long way - but it’s also a LOAN, so you’re not donating any money - you’ll get it back - sure you technically lose some buying power due to inflation, but I’ve lost more actual money in my mutual funds that suck - breaking even would’ve been nice in that case.

So have an awesome Wednesday! And check out our Kiva.org profile if you haven’t already, and if you’re up for it - sign up and be our friend! (I think you say we ‘invited’ you or something.) Have fun! Click here.
